I love watching my kids grow! It’s incredibly gratifying to see them “adulting”.

They appreciate every dollar they earn. Using the mason jars labeled “save,” “give,” and “spend” when they were little is paying off now.

They give the best of themselves whether it be in school, their jobs, or their friendships.

Yet the growing process is not at all enjoyable. There are some weeds we have to pull along the way.

DISRESPECT

It’s never okay to talk down to someone! Parents, we must model this in our marriage and relationships. Remember that more is caught than taught!

SELFISHNESS

A great way to pull this weed is to sign up to serve! Help a neighbor in need. Take a meal to a hurting family. Bake cookies for friends. Always remember that Jesus Christ, the greatest of all, came to serve!

UNFORGIVENESS

As humans, we want to hold a grudge, which only leads to resentment. When I was younger, someone had hurt me deeply, and I went to my mom to bear my soul. After letting me cry and vent, she spoke these words of wisdom: “If you hold unforgiveness in your heart, it will only hurt you.”

Regularly clearing the weeds in your own life helps to create a culture of health in your home. As parents, we cannot expect our children to grow in these areas if we are not putting in the work ourselves. As you work on your personal growth, you are setting an example for your children to follow!
