Do you remember your first kiss? Mica and I had been talking to each other all week at a church youth camp where we were counselors. The chemistry between us was fireworks! According to the rules, counselors were not allowed to show public displays of affection of any kind. I am a ruler follower. Mica? Not so much!
When we learned that Mica’s cousin (and my friend) was in a hospital nearby, we got permission to slip away from the campgrounds to go see her. After our visit, we headed back to camp. Before we pulled back into the camp parking lot. Mica said,”I am dying to kiss you!” I replied, ” I thought you’d never ask!” It was a sweet, electric moment that neither of us will ever forget!
Twenty-something years later we still like to kiss, but we found ourselves going days without more than just a peck. So we decided to start a 60 second kiss challenge. Now we try to kiss for at least 60 seconds each day.
Who wants to join the 60 second kiss challenge? If you need a little more convincing, you might be interested to know that kissing has health benefits! No kidding!
The Science of Kissing
- Releases the “Feel Good” hormones Oxytocin, dopamine, and serotonin which in turn
- Increase the level of relationship satisfaction
- Encourage affection and bonding
- Lowers Stress by decreasing cortisol levels, also known as the “stress hormone”
- Burn Calories – (5-26 per minute) Potentially you could burn at least 150 calories in one hour!
- In the American Journal of Medicine Joseph S. Alpert, MD found that “men who kissed their wives every morning, live 5 years longer and make more $$$ than men who fail to do this common ritual.”
Whether you have been married for five years or fifty years, your relationship will benefit from a daily 60 second kiss. It’s 60 seconds that could start a spark and keep the home fires burning in your relationship.
